Summary

This workshop is designed to enhance the professional competencies of mental health providers interested in working internationally, specifically within faith-based and cross-cultural settings. Tailored to faith-based psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, and ministry leaders, the session aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and perspectives to effectively address the multifaceted challenges of global mental health. These challenges include the need for cultural competence and sensitivity, ethical dilemmas, resource limitations, and the integration of innovative approaches to mental health care delivery. The workshop emphasizes the importance of faith and spirituality in mental health, acknowledging their critical role in many global contexts and offering a unique perspective that Christian mental health professionals bring to this field. Participants will explore how faith-based organizations, both local and global, can effectively meet the mental health needs of diverse populations. The workshop will also focus on innovative strategies, such as task-sharing and digital mental health interventions, which help overcome resource constraints in resource-poor regions. Practical insights and opportunities for collaboration will be provided, equipping attendees with actionable steps to contribute to global mental health efforts. The overarching goal is to inform, inspire, and prepare participants for impactful engagement in addressing mental health needs on a global scale, while fostering a greater understanding of the intersection between faith and mental health care.
