Summary

Over 63 million women in America have undergone an abortion since 1973, equating to 1 out of every 3 women alive in the US today. The emotional and physical risks of abortion are profound, yet many women conceal their experiences, leading to deep depression, other mental health conditions, and significant physical side effects. In this workshop, psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, medical personnel, ministry leaders, and coaches will discuss how to make a strategic, trauma-informed impact on this client population that not only fosters inner healing but also prevents future abortions. Participants will identify the tools to speak compassionately and intelligently with clients who have had an abortion or been closely involved in one, and how to address the emotional and physical risks of abortion using a trauma-informed care model. Additionally, participants explore available after-abortion community resources to further support clients.

Learning Objectives

1 Discuss the emotional and physical risks associated with abortion, equipping them to better support clients who have undergone the procedure.
2 Identify practical skills for addressing the needs of clients who have had an abortion, using a trauma-informed care model that promotes healing and prevents future abortions.
3 Examine available after-abortion community resources, learning how to connect clients to ongoing support and healing opportunities outside of therapy.
