When people experience serious interpersonal harm, most are resilient post-trauma; some develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); and some experience post-traumatic growth (PTG). In many cases, injustices must be dealt with, but many also want to forgive their perpetrators and, often, themselves. This workshop will describe recent clinical findings that show the benefits of promoting forgiveness in individual, couple, or family clients, especially those who have experienced trauma. This presentation will help participants acquire specific forgiveness-centered techniques that can be used with clients. It will give participants ideas for promoting forgiveness and specifically help couple relationships using the REACH Forgiveness and the Hope-Focused Couple Approach (HFCA), an evidence-based model to help heal relationships.
