Summary

The transition through perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause significantly impacts mental health, sexual functioning, and overall quality of life. Hormonal fluctuations, particularly reductions in estrogen, can lead to a variety of symptoms that negatively affect physical health, body image, and sexual well-being, often impairing emotional and physical intimacy within relationships. Many women may feel reluctant to discuss these changes with healthcare providers, therapists, or even close social networks, leading to increased anxiety, isolation, relationship strain, and disruptions in personal and professional functioning. This workshop for licensed mental health professionals and ministry leaders aims to enhance clinical understanding of the physiological, psychological, and relational challenges associated with menopausal transitions. It will also explore evidence-based interventions and strategies to support women and couples in navigating this life stage with improved emotional well-being and relational satisfaction.

Learning Objectives

1 Define and describe the stages of menopause, including premenopause, perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause.
2 Identify common physical, psychological, and sexual symptoms associated with each stage of menopause.
3 Discuss evidence-based approaches and therapeutic strategies for mitigating symptoms and improving the well-being of individuals navigating the menopausal transition.
