We live in a “me-centered” culture, with many selfishly asserting their “rights” and powering over others in the process. This epidemic of selfishness, entitlement, and emotional immaturity fuels narcissism and marital sexual abuse, traumatizing many and eroding the sensitive fabric of marriage. This workshop explores not only the culture of narcissism but also individual character pathology, its impact on marriage, and strategies psychologists, licensed mental health professionals, and ministry leaders can employ to assist individuals and couples as they navigate their way to relational health. The presenters will discuss interventions needed to assist the narcissist and healing strategies for the victim of narcissistic abuse. Finally, the presenters will demonstrate how sexual power and control, often an aspect of narcissism, permeates the narcissistic marriage and the interventions and boundaries needed to bring sexual healing.
